Conference:
Sonic Focus at Brown University
On November 3-4, Brown University in Providence, RI will host the Sonic Focus conference, which explores the “complementarities and antagonisms between sound and image in contemporary culture.” While the use of the term “complementarities” might give one pause for thought, Sonic Focus looks to be a compelling mix of sound theory and practice. The conference features talks by David Toop, Diedrich Diederichsen, and Douglas Kahn, as well as panels with an ace array of sound art luminaries (Christian Marclay, Stephen Vitiello, Steve Roden, etc) and academics (Joe Milutis, Christoph Cox, etc). There will also be two nights of performances (November 3 & 4) by musicians Tony Conrad, Robert Lippok, AGF and others.
