Brethren of the Free Spirit Video
This live clip of avant-lutenist, Jozef van Wissem, and 12-string wunderkind, James Blackshaw, is a preview of sorts for their sophomore CD/LP release as the Brethren of the Free Spirit (due out this Fall). Their debut, All Things are from Him, through Him, and in Him, was a sportive exploration of the painstaking pleasures of repetition and the competitive challenge of collaboration. Based on this performance of “The Wolf Shall Also Dwell with the Lamb,” it would seem the two Brethren have entered a more harmonious phase of their musical partnership. Not coincidentally, I’m currently working on an article about the duo for the Fall issue of Signal to Noise.
